Resumo

Anthropogenic impacts has increased soil erosion due to the lack of soil conservation practices along with disordered land use and land cover changes (LULCC). Once the land use and management factor (C-factor) from the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) is the most sensible to LULCC, it is of paramount importance the understanding of soil erosion dynamics by assessing the spatiotemporal variability of the land cover through the USLE C-factor. The Cerrado biome is of strategical importance to the Brazilian economy for the availability of the water-food-energy nexus. Nevertheless, soil erosion rates have potentially increased in this biome resulting in a decrease in the water resources availability, key to maintain and develop economic activities. Therefore, we aimed at presenting some preliminary results of the C-factor temporal variation between 2012 and 2018. Our study area is in the Itirapina city, São Paulo, Brazil. We have monitored three main land uses in the Brazilian Cerrado: (i) pasture under rotational grazing; (ii) sugar cane plantation; and (iii) undisturbed Cerrado. We also monitor bare soil plots to evaluate soil erosion in the land uses. All land uses were analysed in three replicates. The C-factor was 0,0608 for sugar cane, 0,0091 for cerrado sensu stricto and 0,0087 for the Brachiaria decumbens pasture. Similar C-factor for the land uses of pasture and the cerrado shows the importance of adopting adequate soil and animal management in order to maintain the pasture productive and, as a consequence, to protect the soil against the erosive power of rainfall events.
