Resumo

The presence of vegetation cover on the soil surface modifies the characteristics of the surface runoff, the disaggregation and sediment transport resulting from the erosion. The objective of this work is to evaluate soil disintegration rates and resistance to flow with and without the presence of vegetal residues on the soil surface. The experiment was carried out under simulated rainfall on a dystrophic Oxisol, in plots with 0.70 m² and mean slope of 5%. The increase in plant cover increased soil roughness and reduced the flow velocity, caused by increased viscous forces through the physical barriers generated by the straw to the flow. The result is the reduction in the rate of soil disaggregation (Di). The disaggregation rate was 14.34 10-4 kg m-2 s-1 for uncovered soil and 0.76 kg 10-4 kg m-2 s-1 in soil with straw cover. The results obtained concluded that the straw on the soil significantly reduced soil disintegration rates, effectively helping to control erosion.
